Who can take part
- You have pain at the base of your thumb that makes daily activities hard, and it hasn't improved after at least 3 months of non-surgical treatments like splints, anti-inflammatory medication, or steroid shots.
- X-rays show arthritis in the thumb joint (Eaton grade 2 or 3).
- You are between 18 and 69 years old (if you have Eaton grade 2, you must be at least 50).
- You have not had thumb arthritis surgery on the other hand before.
- You do not have other hand problems like carpal tunnel syndrome or De Quervain's, and you do not have inflammatory arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
- You are not taking strong steroids by mouth, and you do not have severe bone thinning that could affect the surgery.
- You can understand Swedish well enough to fill out questionnaires.
