Who can take part
- You can give informed consent to join the study
- You are between 40 and 85 years old
- You are scheduled for planned (elective) open surgery on the abdominal aorta (infrarenal aneurysm repair)
- You do not have a weakened immune system or take strong immune medicines
- You do not have an active infection, inflammatory bowel disease, or a current cancer
- During surgery, you do not need more than 2 units of blood transfusion
