This study tests whether an opioid-free pain/anesthesia plan during elective lung surgery can reduce surgical “stress” on the body and affect the immune system. You may be eligible if you have early-stage non-small cell lung cancer and are scheduled for a specific type of surgery (VATS lobectomy).

Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for elective VATS lobectomy (removing part of the lung using small-chest incisions)
  • Your non-small cell lung cancer is early stage (up to T3N1M0)
  • You have not had previous lung surgery
  • You are not taking corticosteroids or other immune-suppressing medicines before surgery
  • You do not have uncontrolled diabetes, significant heart failure symptoms, or an active infection before surgery
  • You are not taking the specific study drugs during the allowed time window (which depends on the group)
