Who can take part

  • You have already had sleeve gastrectomy (sleeve weight-loss surgery).
  • You are willing to sign informed consent and follow the study plan.
  • Your weight is 450 pounds or less.
  • You do not regularly take growth hormones, steroid pills, or prescription medicines for osteoporosis.
  • You do not have an allergy to bisphosphonates.
  • Your stomach reflux is stable—no need for extra anti-reflux medication doses (2 or more extra doses per month).
