Breathing muscle training to lower blood pressure in postmenopause

Who can take part

  • You are a woman who is at least 50 years old and has been postmenopausal for more than 12 months
  • You have not taken estrogen or hormone therapy in the past 12 months
  • Your resting blood pressure is 120 (top number) or higher
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is under 40, and your weight has been stable in the last 3 months
  • Your blood pressure medications and other prescription doses have not changed in the last 3 months, and you can keep them steady
  • You can agree to be randomly assigned to either breathing training or aerobic exercise
