Who can take part

  • You must be diagnosed with sepsis, and septic shock treatments have not worked well enough
  • The infection source must be in the abdomen, with the infection focus controlled
  • You need a medication called noradrenaline (norepinephrine) at over 0.5 micrograms per kilogram per minute despite fluids
  • You must have poor function in two or more organs, with a high SOFA score (score about 9 or more)
  • Blood tests must show very high inflammation levels (lactate, procalcitonin, CRP, and IL-6)
  • You must be age 18 to 80, not pregnant or breastfeeding, not expected to live less than 48 hours, and not on another hemoperfusion device
