Testing an immune memory boost with checkpoint therapy

This early study tests whether “immune recall” (training the immune system using specific vaccine-like steps) can improve how well checkpoint drugs work for advanced melanoma. It is designed mainly to see if the approach is feasible and safe, and it may help some people respond better to PD-1 (with or without CTLA-4) treatment.

Who can take part

  • You must have confirmed advanced melanoma that has spread (metastatic melanoma).
  • You must be age 18 or older and able to sign (or have a representative sign) consent.
  • Your cancer doctor must be planning you to receive PD-1 treatment, or PD-1 plus another checkpoint drug (CTLA-4), as standard care.
  • You need at least one target spot/lesion that is at least 8 mm and can be examined or sampled with a biopsy (often ultrasound-guided).
  • You must have recent blood count results that show: enough white blood cells, platelets, and hemoglobin.
  • You cannot have certain melanoma types (uveal or mucosal), be pregnant or breastfeeding, or have had prior whole-body treatment for metastatic melanoma (prior surgery is okay).
