Who can take part

  • You are having surgery to fix an arm bone (ulnar/radial) or a painful foot/ankle issue
  • Your surgeon plans a pain catheter near the nerve (infraclavicular for arm or popliteal sciatic for lower leg) to control postop pain
  • You have not used opioids (strong prescription pain pills) every day in the past 4 weeks
  • You do not have an existing nerve weakness or serious nerve/muscle problem in the area where the catheter will go
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 35 or lower
  • You are not pregnant and you are not incarcerated
