Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for a below-knee amputation.
  • You have not been taking strong prescription painkillers daily for more than 4 weeks before surgery.
  • You do not have a nerve or muscle problem affecting the leg being operated on.
  • You do not have a weakened immune system (e.g., from chemotherapy, radiation, or infection).
  • You do not have any implanted medical devices like a pacemaker or spinal cord stimulator.
