Who can take part
- You are 18 to 75 years old
- You have confirmed esophageal (food pipe) cancer and are willing to have surgery
- Your cancer stage fits one of these: T1–2 N0–1 M0, or T3 N1–2 M0 after neoadjuvant (before-surgery) treatment with partial response and resection is possible
- Your tumor is in the chest (thoracic) part of the esophagus and has not spread to distant organs
- Your heart and lung function are good enough for surgery under anesthesia (heart function NYHA 0–1)
- You have no major recent stomach bleeding/ulcer issues, no other active cancers, and no prior esophagus/gastrectomy surgery
