Cryotherapy treatment for painful, hard-to-remove NF1 tumors

This trial tests whether freezing treatment done through the skin (cryotherapy) can reduce pain and discomfort from certain non-cancer NF1 tumors that can’t be safely removed. You may be able to join if you’re an adult with NF1, a painful or bothersome benign lesion, and can safely undergo procedures like MRI.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) as defined by standard medical criteria.
  • You need a benign (not cancerous) neurofibroma that is painful and/or causes functional discomfort, and cannot be removed safely (or removal would cause unacceptable scarring).
  • Your recent blood test should show neutrophils above 1 G/L within the last 14 days, and your blood clotting tests should be acceptable.
  • You must not be on chemotherapy or targeted anti-cancer medicines during the trial.
  • You need to be able to safely have MRI scans and a skin freezing procedure; also pregnancy and breastfeeding aren’t allowed.
