Who can take part
- Your child is between 9 months and under 21 years old
- They have had diarrhea in the last 7 days and it is linked to a high-risk toxin E. coli infection
- They may have bloody diarrhea, or doctors suspect hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), or a lab test shows a high-risk E. coli type or Stx2 toxin
- They do not have advanced HUS (all three: low red cell level, low platelets, and high creatinine/kidney level)
- They have not had HUS before, and they do not have atypical HUS
- They are able to take part in the study without language barriers, and your child is not pregnant
