Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You had fever (at least 38.3°C) or shaking chills at least once at home or in the hospital.
  • Your doctors suspect a bladder/kidney infection based on symptoms like burning or urgent urination, new/worse leaking, blood in urine, frequent urination, or pain in the lower belly/flank.
  • Your urine and/or blood test shows an ESBL bacteria type that is susceptible to pivmecillinam.
  • You are an inpatient who has had 1–5 days of an “ESBL-active” IV antibiotic, and your doctor thinks it’s safe to switch to oral antibiotics.
  • You have not joined this trial before (one time only).
