Who can take part

  • You’re in the emergency department after blunt trauma
  • A doctor suspects an aortic injury (aortic tear) is possible
  • You will need both tests: TEE (ultrasound through the esophagus) and CTA (CT scan)
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You cannot have conditions that make TEE unsafe, like a suspected esophagus injury
