Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a pancreaticoduodenectomy or total pancreatectomy, or a distal pancreatectomy for suspected cancer
  • Your surgery is planned (not an emergency done for trauma, infection, or pancreatitis)
  • You have not taken blood thinners/anticoagulants (like heparin, warfarin, or direct oral anticoagulants) in the 30 days before surgery
  • You can take low-molecular-weight heparin (no allergy or other reason you cannot take it)
  • You are age 18 or older and can sign consent in writing
