Who can take part

  • You have a confirmed COPD flare-up with sudden worse breathing, cough, and/or sputum beyond your usual day-to-day changes
  • You are age 40 or older and have COPD documented in your records
  • You can consent and answer study questionnaires in Cantonese, Mandarin, or English
  • You can stay in the study for about 6 months after you’re randomly assigned
  • Right before enrollment, you have NOT already started steroid tablets or antibiotics for this flare-up
  • Your situation is not likely to be a different serious breathing problem or infection that looks like a COPD flare-up
