- You have been diagnosed with cirrhosis (from exams, scans, or biopsy)
- You have an enlarged spleen with “hypersplenism,” meaning your spleen is causing blood-count problems
- You have had bleeding from swollen veins in the esophagus or upper stomach (variceal bleeding)
- You can sign informed consent to join the study
- You do not have liver cancer or any other active cancer
- Your liver function is not “Child-Pugh grade C” and you are not pregnant
