Laparoscopic spleen surgery to protect liver function in cirrhosis

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with cirrhosis (from exams, scans, or biopsy)
  • You have an enlarged spleen with “hypersplenism,” meaning your spleen is causing blood-count problems
  • You have had bleeding from swollen veins in the esophagus or upper stomach (variceal bleeding)
  • You can sign informed consent to join the study
  • You do not have liver cancer or any other active cancer
  • Your liver function is not “Child-Pugh grade C” and you are not pregnant
