Testing an anti-depression medicine for threat-related brain changes in teens

Who can take part

  • Be between 14 and 21 years old, and past puberty (Tanner stage above 3)
  • Have depression as your main mental health diagnosis (not another primary diagnosis)
  • Be able to agree and follow study tasks, and have a caregiver consent if needed
  • Be under a clinician’s care who will treat you with fluoxetine or escitalopram
  • Not take medicines that could interfere—especially antidepressants, mood stabilizers, hormone supplements, or steroids—for the required washout time
