Beta-blocker effects on heart rate and exercise capacity in atrial fibrillation

Who can take part

  • You’re over 20 years old.
  • You have persistent atrial fibrillation and take a beta-blocker specifically to control your heart rate.
  • Your beta-blocker dose has not changed for at least 3 months.
  • Your resting heart rate is under 80 beats per minute.
  • Your heart’s pumping strength (left ventricular ejection fraction) is above 50%.
  • You can safely complete a cardiopulmonary (exercise) test and give informed consent.
