Who can take part

  • You’re age 18 to 80 and can give consent and attend all study visits
  • Your pain has lasted at least 6 months and is severe, disabling, and stable for the last 2 months
  • Your pain is nerve-related (for example after stroke, spinal cord injury, or shingles) rather than from an “unknown” cause
  • You tried at least 3 prescription pain medicines at proper doses, including one opioid at some point, without enough relief
  • Your MRI shows the insula brain area clearly enough for doctors to place electrodes during testing
  • Your heart, MRI safety, bleeding risk, and seizure history fit the study’s safety rules
