Improving emergency care for children with appendicitis or fractures

This project looks at how emergency department care is delivered for children with possible appendicitis or a long bone fracture, with a focus on reducing inequities. You may be eligible if your child comes to the emergency department for symptoms that could fit these conditions, and they are not in the most immediately life-threatening category.

  • Your child is age 0 to 21 and is being evaluated in the emergency department for possible appendicitis or a long bone fracture
  • Your child’s symptoms are being treated as potentially appendicitis or a long bone fracture
  • They are not classified as Emergency Severity Index (ESI) level 1 (the most urgent, life-threatening category)
