Radiation after mastectomy with breast implant reconstruction

Breast Cancer

Part of Cancer, Skin clinical trials.

This trial studies a radiation schedule given after breast cancer surgery when your breast was rebuilt right away with a prosthesis (implant or similar). It aims to see whether this “hypofractionated” (fewer, larger treatment sessions) radiation approach is appropriate for patients who need additional (adjuvant) radiation to reduce recurrence risk.

Who can take part

  • You have breast cancer confirmed by biopsy as invasive ductal cancer or invasive lobular cancer.
  • You had a radical mastectomy (breast removed) with immediate reconstruction using a prosthesis/implant.
  • Your doctors recommend adjuvant (after-surgery) radiation therapy, not treatment meant only to relieve symptoms.
  • You are an adult (over 18) and can do daily activities at a level that fits ECOG 0 to 2 (generally fully active to limited but up-and-about).
  • Your cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body (no distant metastases).
  • You have not had other past cancers, and you have not had prior radiation or chemotherapy before starting this study.

NCT06830083Recruiting
Shorter radiation schedule after mastectomy with implant reconstruction

This trial is testing a shorter, higher-dose radiation schedule (hypofractionation) for women who have had a mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction with implants. The goal is to see if this approach works as well as standard radiation while possibly being more convenient and causing fewer side effects.

NCT07084519Recruiting· Phase 3
Short vs standard radiation after mastectomy with implant reconstruction

This trial compares standard radiation therapy to a shorter course (hypofractionated) for women who have had a mastectomy with implant reconstruction. The goal is to see if the shorter schedule works as well while possibly reducing side effects for the reconstructed breast.

NCT03856372Recruiting
Shorter radiation schedule after mastectomy for high-risk breast cancer

This trial compares a shorter radiation plan to a standard longer plan after mastectomy for people considered high risk. It may help reduce treatment time while still trying to prevent breast-cancer recurrence.

NCT05692674Recruiting· Phase 2
Proton radiation after breast surgery with implant reconstruction

This trial studies a type of radiation made with proton beams given after mastectomy and implant reconstruction to lower breast cancer coming back. It’s for people who need additional (adjuvant) radiation and have not had prior radiation to the chest or breast.

NCT05253170Not yet recruiting· Phase 3
Radiation timing after breast reconstruction: shorter vs standard schedule

This Phase 3 trial compares two radiation treatment schedules after mastectomy in people who had breast reconstruction. It aims to see which schedule works better and is easier to tolerate for preventing cancer from coming back.

Radiation before breast reconstruction with implants

This trial tests giving radiation therapy before surgery and immediate breast reconstruction using implants. It may help patients who need a mastectomy and know they will need radiation after.
