Brain activity study during surgery for high-grade glioma

This early-stage study measures electrical brain activity during brain tumor surgery to see if it can predict tumor return or progression. You may be offered the additional measurements while your surgeon removes a suspected or known high-grade glioma.

Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older.
  • Your MRI shows a suspected high-grade brain tumor (grades 3 or 4, including glioblastoma) OR you have a confirmed history of high-grade glioma and you’re getting surgery for a recurrence/progression.
  • You need a recent MRI scan within 1 month before surgery.
  • You must be well enough for surgery (Karnofsky score 60 or higher).
  • Your blood and clotting tests must be within safe ranges (or within the expected range if you’re on blood thinners).
  • You must not be pregnant, and your tumor must not be in a brain area where the planned procedure would be too risky (certain critical “eloquent” areas).
