Who can take part

  • You are being treated at Mayo Clinic Rochester’s Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic and you’re starting hormonal gender-affirming therapies (blockers, masculinizing, or feminizing hormones)
  • You can understand the study and give consent (or a parent/guardian can consent if you’re under 18)
  • You can do the breathing/lung function tests (pulmonary function tests) as instructed
  • You do not have recent surgeries within the last 3 months that could interfere with lung testing
  • You do not have certain recent heart or lung problems (like recent blood clot to the lung, fluid around the lung, collapsed lung, or recent heart attack)
