Cardiometabolic Risk Factors in Adult Wheelchair Users

This study tests whether a movement-to-music exercise program at home can improve cardiometabolic health (health related to heart and blood sugar) for adults who use a wheelchair and are not already exercising regularly. You may benefit if you can exercise using your arms and can do moderate activity safely.

Who can take part

  • You use a wheelchair (manual or power) or an electric scooter as your main way to get around.
  • You have at least two “heart and blood sugar risk” factors (for example, high blood pressure, diabetes/prediabetes, high cholesterol, or similar risks).
  • A doctor has cleared you for exercise and you are medically stable enough to exercise at home.
  • You are able to use your arms for exercise, and you are at least 18 years old.
  • In the past month, you did less than 90 minutes per week of moderate aerobic exercise, and you have not been in a structured exercise program in the past 6 months.
