Dexamethasone for serious dengue with warning signs
Treatments studied
Part of Infections clinical trials.
This trial studies whether dexamethasone (a steroid medicine) can help people with dengue infection who have warning signs and are still in the fever stage. It may help reduce complications like breathing problems, severe bleeding, or organ stress, but it is only for a specific window and situation.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You have lab-confirmed dengue (a positive NS1 test or anti-dengue IgM blood test).
- You are still in the fever period, with temperature above 37.5°C.
- You have dengue “warning signs,” such as fluid buildup with breathing trouble, severe bleeding, or signs that organs may be affected.
- Your vital signs/bleeding markers fit the study’s “shock” definition (for example, very low blood pressure, narrow pulse pressure, or fast heart rate with a big hematocrit drop).
- Your illness started less than 24 hours ago (you do not have severe dengue for more than 24 hours).
- You are not pregnant, and you have not taken any steroid medicine in the past 1 week.

This study tests new medicines for people hospitalized with moderate-to-severe dengue fever. This study tests whether a steroid medication called dexamethasone can help people with tick-borne encephalitis, a serious brain infection spread by ticks. The goal is to see if this treatment reduces inflammation in the brain and improves recovery.
This Phase 2 study tests whether zanamivir given through a vein can improve outcomes in people with dengue infection who have warning signs. It may help by reducing the body problems dengue can cause in blood vessels and fluid balance.
This study tests whether giving a steroid called dexamethasone early after a severe burn can reduce serious complications and the risk of death. It is for adults on a breathing machine with large burns.
