This study uses detailed heart scans and information about metabolism (how your body uses energy) to understand how metabolic treatments and heart rehabilitation may affect your health. You may qualify either as someone undergoing bariatric (weight-loss) care or as part of a heart rehabilitation group—or as a healthy comparison group.

Who can take part

  • Be older than 18 years
  • Be able to read and sign the written consent form
  • Join the study in one of these groups: bariatric surgery group, cardiac rehab group, or healthy control group
  • If in the bariatric group: obesity is typically BMI 30 or higher (or BMI under 30 for the non-obese control within that group)
  • If in the cardiac rehab group: you have symptoms from cardiovascular disease (while healthy controls have no signs of cardiovascular disease)
  • Be able to have an MRI/heart scan safely (no standard MRI contraindications)
