Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are currently hospitalized for acute kidney injury (AKI), in a regular unit or the kidney-focused intensive care unit.
  • Your AKI is moderate to severe (KDIGO stage 2 or 3) and you are NOT on dialysis.
  • Your AKI is due to a functional or organic cause (not the excluded causes like infection-related or blockage-related AKI).
  • You do not have advanced long-term kidney disease with low kidney function (GFR under 45) and you do not have a kidney transplant.
  • You are not pregnant and you are not receiving palliative (comfort-focused only) care.
