Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are having an ERCP planned for a first-time (“virgin”) papilla
- You can read and sign the consent form to join the study
- You have NOT had a prior papilla cut (sphincterotomy) before
- You can safely receive anesthesia and the study medicines (including lidocaine)
- You can’t join if you’re pregnant or could become pregnant without reliable birth control during the study
