Short-stay IV fluids to prevent pancreatitis after ERCP

Post-ERCP PancreatitisPancreatitis

Part of Digestive system clinical trials.

This trial tests whether giving extra IV fluids before, during, and after an ERCP procedure can help prevent a common complication called post-ERCP pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). If you are scheduled for an ERCP, you may be eligible to participate.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are having an ERCP procedure (a test that looks at your bile and pancreatic ducts).
  • You do not have severe heart failure, which would make extra fluids unsafe.
  • You do not have severe kidney disease (your kidney function is very low).
  • You have not had major surgery that changed your stomach or intestine anatomy.
  • You are not pregnant, do not have acute or chronic pancreatitis (unless the ERCP is to treat your pancreatic duct), and do not have certain other conditions.

Indomethacin vs pancreatic stent to prevent post-ERCP pancreatitis
