Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and can sign informed consent
  • Your cancer is squamous cell carcinoma found in the head and neck area
  • Your care team says your cancer is not treatable with a cure (palliative treatment only)
  • You can safely receive radiation therapy (no major reasons you can’t have it)
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You can complete recent exams, scans, and symptom/pain questionnaires before treatment

This trial looks at whether giving less (de-escalated) radiation after surgery is as effective and safer for people with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma who had a strong response to treatment before surgery. If you had no remaining cancer or only very small amounts of cancer left in the surgical specimen, this approach may help reduce side effects while keeping control of the disease.
