Keto-like diet supplements for muscle loss in nephrotic syndrome

Who can take part

  • You have nephrotic syndrome with low blood albumin (below 3.0 g/dL) and heavy urine protein (over 3.5 g/day or over 50 mg/kg/day).
  • Your condition is either newly diagnosed or has returned (relapse) in the past 6 months, and your steroid (prednisone) dose has been 10 mg/day or less in the last 3 months before relapse.
  • Your kidney filtering function is acceptable (eGFR at least 30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
  • You do not have kidney disease caused by diabetes, and you do not have certain autoimmune causes (like vasculitis, lupus, or specific positive antibody tests such as ANA/anti-dsDNA/ANCA).
  • You are not pregnant, have no severe illness that would affect nutrition, and do not have very high body weight-related BMI (BMI under 40).
