Study of why some bowel inflammation treatments don’t work

This study looks at blood and/or tissue “molecular” (cell-level) reasons why treatments don’t fully work in adults with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. If you are starting a biologic or small-molecule medicine and still have moderate to severe symptoms, you may be able to contribute to research that helps improve future care.

Who can take part

  • Be an adult (18 or older) and have signed the consent form
  • Have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis for at least 3 months
  • Have moderate to severe disease based on specific scoring tests (Mayo score for ulcerative colitis or CDAI for Crohn’s)
  • Be starting a new treatment like an anti-TNF, anti-IL 21/23, anti-integrin, or a JAK inhibitor
  • Have a colonoscopy planned as part of routine care to check how active the disease is
