Tests a breathing tube cap and safe swallowing after throat surgery

Who can take part

  • Be older than 18 years
  • Have had head and neck surgery and currently have a tracheal (breathing) tube with the required size (5.0 mm diameter; 9.4 mm outside diameter)
  • Be able to tolerate having the tracheal tube capped for close to 48 hours while your oxygen level is monitored
  • Be able to do the swallowing training taught during your hospital stay
  • Be able to sip/“suck” through a straw without food/liquid leaking from the mouth
