  • You are 18 years or older
  • You had a breathing tube in for more than 24 hours
  • Your breathing tube was removed less than 4 hours ago
  • You do not have a muscle or nerve disease
  • You do not need a breathing mask for more than 6 hours after the tube is removed
  • You do not have a history of swallowing problems
