Who can take part

  • Be under 18 years old
  • Weigh more than 10 kilograms
  • Be a child who is intubated (has a breathing tube), or needs intubation, and the tube has a cuff
  • Need a central venous line placed in the upper-body veins (the superior vena cava area)
  • Usually must not have certain breathing-device issues (like a leak in the mechanical ventilation)
  • You (or your legal guardian) must be able to provide written informed consent
