Hormone therapy plus targeted prostate treatment for intermediate cancer

Prostate Cancer

Treatments studied

Part of Cancer, Kidney & urinary clinical trials.

This Phase 2 study tests whether combining hormone treatment (androgen deprivation therapy) with focal ablation (targeted destruction of prostate tissue) controls intermediate-risk prostate cancer. It may help some men avoid or reduce more aggressive treatment, while still aiming for cancer control.

Who can take part

  • You have intermediate-risk prostate cancer (not low-risk or very advanced).
  • Your prostate cancer has not spread outside the prostate and there is no spread to lymph nodes or bones on recent scans.
  • You must choose focal (targeted) prostate treatment as your plan for treating your cancer.
  • You must be able to undergo general anesthesia and the targeted prostate procedure (focal ablation).
  • You must have enough blood and organ function for treatment (for example, hemoglobin, platelets, kidney and liver tests) and a good enough overall activity level.
  • You must be male age 18 or older and willing to sign consent; if sexually active with a pregnancy-capable partner, you must use condoms plus a reliable birth-control method during treatment and for 3 months after the last hormone shot.

Focal therapy for medium-risk prostate cancer

This trial tests a gentler treatment called focal therapy that targets only the part of the prostate with cancer. It's for men whose prostate cancer has a Gleason score of 7, low PSA, and hasn't spread outside the prostate.

NCT04831983Recruiting
Radiation treatment for intermediate- and high-risk prostate cancer

This trial studies a type of focused radiation (“ablative radiotherapy”) for prostate tumors considered intermediate- or high-risk. It may help improve control of the cancer while aiming for acceptable side effects.

Focused ultrasound plus new hormone therapy for advanced prostate cancer

This trial tests combining a focused ultrasound treatment (high-intensity focused ultrasound) with a new type of hormone therapy for men with advanced prostate cancer that has spread. The goal is to see if this combination can help control the cancer better than hormone therapy alone.

Focal therapy study for early-stage prostate cancer

This study is tracking men who choose focal therapy (a targeted treatment) for their localized prostate cancer. It aims to learn how well this treatment works and how it affects quality of life.

Focal therapy for intermediate risk prostate cancer registry

This is a registry study for men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer who are getting a type of focal treatment (treating only the cancer spot, not the whole prostate). It collects data on treatments like HIFU, cryotherapy, and others to better understand their long-term results.
