Who can take part

  • You must be able to read and sign consent, and be 18–65 years old.
  • You must be a non-smoker for at least 5 years, and have no neurological disease history.
  • Your cough must be ongoing for at least 1 year and not respond to treatments for causes like reflux, asthma, or nasal allergies.
  • Your cough severity must be high at screening (at least 40 mm on a 10-point scale).
  • You must be able to have an MRI scan (no unsafe metal implants and you can handle being in the scanner).
  • You must not be pregnant, and you must not have serious allergy to chili (very rare), and you need to do the study in English.
