Opioid-Induced Esophageal Dysfunction

Who can take part

  • Be enrolled in a Mayo Pain Rehabilitation Center program to stop (cease) opioid medicines
  • Be able to understand the study and sign informed consent
  • No prior stomach/food-pipe (gastroesophageal) surgery, and no past “pneumatic dilation” procedure
  • No esophagus procedures like botulinum toxin (Botox) shots within the last 12 months
  • Not have certain esophagus conditions like a stricture (narrowing) or achalasia type I or II
