EUS drainage versus antibiotics for high-risk gallbladder inflammation
Part of Digestive system clinical trials.
This Phase 3 study compares two approaches for people with gallstone-related acute gallbladder inflammation: a procedure called EUS drainage versus antibiotic treatment alone. It may help you avoid early surgery if you are considered high risk for immediate gallbladder removal.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You have acute gallbladder inflammation from gallstones, in grade 1 or 2 (not grade 3)
- You are considered very high risk for early laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, or you are an older patient who declined surgery
- You are not pregnant
- You can agree to follow-up visits and assessments
- You do not have signs of gallbladder tissue death or a hole (gangrene or perforation)

This trial compares two minimally invasive ways to drain an infected gallbladder when you are too sick or not a candidate for surgery. It will help determine which approach works better and has fewer side effects.
This trial looks at whether it is safe to delay treatment for a gallbladder infection in patients who have already had a special stent placed to drain the gallbladder. Patients who are too sick for surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either antibiotics with monitoring or immediate gallbladder removal.
This study tests whether a new drainage method can help prevent acute cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder) in people who need a bile duct procedure. If you are at risk for gallbladder issues, this approach might reduce complications.
This trial compares removing the gallbladder early (within a few days) versus waiting several weeks after a drainage tube is placed. It aims to find the best timing for surgery in people with moderate to severe gallbladder inflammation.
This study compares two ways to treat a gallbladder infection in older adults: surgery or a less invasive procedure using an endoscope and ultrasound. The goal is to see which option leads to better outcomes.
This trial tests a newer, ultrasound-guided procedure to drain blocked bile flow using a special metal stent. It may help people who have bile duct blockage but could not have their bile drained successfully with standard ERCP.
