- You are 18 years or older
- You are scheduled for elective major abdominal surgery under general anesthesia
- Your care plan includes both a central venous catheter (CVC) and an arterial line
- Your anesthesia plan is total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), with possible extra regional or nerve-block options
- You will be admitted more than 6 hours before surgery begins as part of normal care
- You can and agree to donate blood and breath samples for the study
