Who can take part

  • Be between 40 and 70 years old.
  • Have signed consent to join the study.
  • Have a uric acid level above 5 mg/dL in blood tests within the last 6 months.
  • Be at high cardiovascular risk (for example, higher 10-year risk score, known heart/brain blood vessel disease, atrial fibrillation, heart failure in early stages, peripheral artery disease, or diabetes/high blood pressure with organ damage signs).
  • Not currently take allopurinol, febuxostat, or any other uric-acid–lowering medicine.
