Numbing shot behind the knee for ACL surgery pain

This study tests whether an extra numbing shot (called IPACK) behind the knee helps reduce pain and the need for strong pain medicine after ACL reconstruction surgery. It's for patients who are having their first ACL surgery and are not using a donor graft.

Who can take part

  • You are at least 16 years old.
  • You speak English and can make your own medical decisions.
  • You are planning to have ACL reconstruction surgery with Dr. John Miller at Loyola University Medical Center.
  • You have not had any surgery on your knee before.
  • You have never had an infection in your knee.
  • You are not taking strong pain medicines (opioids) every day.
  • You are not allergic to numbing medicines (local anesthetics).
  • Your ACL reconstruction will use your own tissue, not a donor graft.
