Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a first-time, one-sided total knee replacement because of arthritis.
  • Your overall health is classified as ASA II or III (your anesthesiologist can tell you this).
  • You do not take strong painkillers (opioids) every day.
  • You do not have nerve damage in the leg that will be operated on.
  • You do not have severe kidney or liver problems.
  • You are not allergic to the pain medicines used in the study (like local anesthetics, ibuprofen, or morphine).
