- You are between 18 and 70 years old.
- You have a type of head and neck cancer (in the mouth, throat, or voice box) that can be removed with surgery, and it is at an advanced stage (stage III or IV).
- You have not had any prior treatment for this cancer.
- You are generally healthy and able to care for yourself (ECOG score of 0 or 1).
- Your blood counts, liver, and kidney function are within normal limits.
- If you can become pregnant or father a child, you must agree to use two effective methods of birth control during the study.
