Who can take part

  • You had a past pregnancy problem like preterm birth (before 37 weeks), a very small baby, severe preeclampsia, or stillbirth (after 20 weeks).
  • A special pathologist confirmed that your placenta from that past pregnancy had blood flow problems (called maternal vascular malperfusion).
  • You are currently pregnant with one baby and your pregnancy is less than 17 weeks along.
  • You are not planning to take blood-thinning medication (like enoxaparin, warfarin, or heparin) for this pregnancy.
  • You do not have certain health conditions like active bleeding, low platelets, severe kidney or liver disease, or a mechanical heart valve.
  • You do not have a serious fetal abnormality known already.
