Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are having heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine
- Your heart function is classified as NYHA class I, II, or III (mild to moderate symptoms)
- Your kidney function is normal, with a creatinine level below 1.2 mg/dL before surgery
- You are willing and able to give written consent to participate
- You do not have any condition that would make a transesophageal ultrasound unsafe (like esophageal or stomach problems)
