Who can take part
- Your baby must be born at or before 32 weeks of pregnancy or weigh less than 1500 grams (3.3 pounds) at birth.
- Your baby must have a very low platelet count (under 25,000 per microliter of blood).
- A brain ultrasound within the last 24 hours must show no major new bleeding.
- Your baby must not have major birth defects, such as problems with the brain, spine, heart, or belly wall, or certain genetic conditions.
- Your baby must not be receiving only comfort care (palliative care).
- Parents must give written permission for the study.
