Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You have a closed (not open) fracture of the upper arm bone near the shoulder, with bone pieces out of place, and you are scheduled for surgery to fix it with a metal plate and screws.
  • The fracture must be of certain types (your surgeon can check if it matches the study types).
  • You have no prior shoulder or arm injury, surgery, or nerve problems that affect movement or feeling.
  • You do not have a condition that makes your skin very sensitive to light, and you have not used anti-inflammatory painkillers within 5 days before the injury.
