- You are 21–40 years old or 65+ years old (some people over 60 may also qualify if needed)
- You have never received a pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine
- You have had no acute infections in the past 2 weeks (like cold, flu, stomach bug)
- You have not taken any anti-inflammatory medicine (like ibuprofen, aspirin) in the past week
- You have not had any alcohol in the past 24 hours
- You do not have an immune deficiency, chronic infections, or certain chronic diseases (like poorly controlled heart or metabolic conditions)
